Face the Consequences: A Party Game Add-On, Now on Kickstarter

Do players keep forgetting the rules of a game? Go out of turn? Or do you simply want to penalize the losers? Have them draw a card and perform a consequence!

Face the Consequences is an add-on for your party games, introducing a new and unpredictable layer to whatever game you’re playing.

Gameplay

Face the Consequences is made up of a deck of cards. Players pick what main game they will be playing and then agree among themselves when a Face the Consequences card must be drawn. The rules make some suggestions, like whenever a specific event occurs (such as rolling a seven) or whenever someone loses a round. Ultimately, it is up to the players to decide.

When the agreed-upon event occurs, the player who triggered the event draws the Face the Consequences card and must perform the action on the card. Some examples of the consequences in the deck include ‘fill your pockets full of rocks’, ‘do your best impression of a professional wrestler’, and ‘have food thrown at you until you catch it in your mouth’. If you draw a card you can’t physically perform, you discard it and draw a new one.

Face the Consequences does not have a winner or a loser. It’s just about playing the game in tandem with your party game. Though of course, your party game may have its own winners and losers.

Review

A lot of party games are already about being silly and having a laugh so Face the Consequences fits in nicely with that. While you could add the cards to any game, their flavor and spirit fits best in a party game setting.

The challenges are designed to only take a couple of minutes or to be performed until your next turn. There are also a handful of special cards in the deck, such as one that allows you to skip a consequence or one that forces you two draw two. This adds a nice, extra bit of suspense when drawing your consequence card as you never know when you’re going to be lucky.

We played with a sample of the core deck, and there was a large range of consequences included, all with unique artwork. We also saw a preview of the NSFW (Not Safe for Wimps) Deck. The designers have been careful to keep all of their heavily adult content in that deck.

Some of the consequences in the core deck are still a bit out there, and many designed to make you feel a bit ridiculous. If you’re easily embarrassed, Face the Consequences isn’t for you, but if you’re in a game group you’re comfortable with and who enjoy being silly, it should make a nice little add-on to your party games.

Pros: Fits well with most party games, highly flexible rules

Cons: Not a game for those easily embarrassed, a few cards are little too extreme
